Information, not advice
Everything on WhereGamble is general information about online casinos, pokies, sports betting and payment methods. It is written for a broad readership and does not take into account your finances, your circumstances or the law that applies to you. Treat none of it as financial, legal or tax guidance, nor as encouragement to gamble. Personal questions deserve a qualified adviser who knows your circumstances.
Online casinos and Australian law
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 makes it unlawful to offer online casino games and online pokies to people in Australia. Licensed Australian providers may offer sports betting, lotteries and keno online, but no Australian licence exists for an online casino. The Australian Communications and Media Authority enforces the Act and asks internet providers to block offshore gambling sites; it has blocked well over a thousand of them.
The Act targets the operator rather than the player, but that does not make an offshore casino a safe place for your money. A site that is blocked today may be reachable tomorrow through a new address, and the reverse is also true. An Australian regulator cannot help you recover a balance from an operator licensed overseas.
What a foreign licence means
The casinos we review hold licences issued outside Australia, most often in Curaçao, Malta or another offshore jurisdiction, or they state that they do. A licence number in a casino footer tells you which authority the operator answers to; it does not tell you that the operator is allowed to accept Australians or that a dispute would be resolved in your favour. Any licence we mention is the one the operator claims on its own site. Check the number in the regulator’s own register before you rely on it.
Bonus figures go out of date
Free spins, welcome packages, rollover multiples, bet caps while a bonus is active, caps on winnings, game weightings and withdrawal limits belong to the operator, who may alter them at any time, sometimes several times a month. Our reviews show what the terms said when we last checked them. The amount in AUD can also differ from what you see once currency, your state or your payment method are taken into account.
If a figure on WhereGamble disagrees with the operator’s terms page, trust the operator’s version. Tell us at [email protected] and we will correct ours.
Ratings and the order of lists
A star rating or a score is an editorial judgement built from facts we can check: terms, banking options, support hours, the licence the operator states. It is still an opinion. Weigh the same facts yourself and you may well reach a different verdict.
The order of our lists is not a pure ranking by score. We are paid by operators, and those commercial agreements decide which casinos appear and which take the top positions. The facts printed inside each review are not for sale. How WhereGamble is paid explains the arrangement in full.
Games, return to player and luck
Return-to-player percentages, volatility labels and hit rates come from game providers and describe very long runs of play. They say little about one session. A pokie advertised at 96% RTP can, and often will, take your whole deposit in an evening. Strategy articles on this site, whether about roulette systems, blackjack charts or betting odds, can make you a better informed player; none of them can overcome the house edge.
Payments and banking
We describe deposit and withdrawal methods as operators present them: PayID, Neosurf, Flexepin, CashtoCode, cards and cryptocurrency among others. Availability depends on the operator, your bank and the method’s own rules, and banks can decline gambling transactions or charge for them. Since 11 June 2024 licensed Australian wagering providers may not accept credit cards. Offshore casinos are not bound by that rule, which is a reason for more care, not less.
Withdrawal times we quote are the operator’s stated times or what we observed. Verification checks, weekends and bonus conditions can stretch them.
Sports betting pages
Our betting guides cover odds formats, strategies and esports markets. Unlike online casinos, sports betting can be offered legally in Australia by bookmakers holding a state or territory licence, and those bookmakers must take part in BetStop. Prices move constantly: an example price in an article was true for the moment it was written and is there to explain the arithmetic, not to tip a result. No staking plan turns a bookmaker’s margin into a reliable profit, and a system that has worked for a month has simply not met its losing run yet.
Safer-gambling tools at offshore casinos
Many offshore operators offer deposit limits, session reminders, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion. We mention these where we find them, but how well they work varies a great deal between brands, and self-excluding at one casino does not stop you opening an account at its sister sites. BetStop does not reach operators outside the Australian licensing system. If you want a firm barrier, blocking software on your devices and a conversation with a Gambling Help Online counsellor are more dependable than a casino’s own settings.
A review is a snapshot
Each review records what we found on a given date. Ownership, licences, software providers and complaint handling can all change after that, and older articles in our news section describe the market as it stood when they were published. Every article shows its update date.
Sites we link to
Links on WhereGamble lead to operator websites, game providers, regulators and support services, none of which we run. Their content and their handling of your data are their own business, and a link is no guarantee about anything on the page it opens.
What we do not promise
We do not promise that a casino will pay you, that a bonus will be credited, that an account will stay open or that any game will return what you put in. Errors can slip into our pages, and the site can be offline at times. Where the law lets us, we exclude responsibility for any loss that follows from reading or acting on what we publish. Guarantees the Australian Consumer Law gives you, and which no contract can remove, still stand.
Protecting yourself
- Decide on a spending cap before the first deposit, and stop when it is gone.
- Read the bonus terms in full: wagering, maximum bet, excluded games, expiry.
- Expect to verify your identity before the first withdrawal, and keep copies of what you send.
- Never chase losses or treat gambling as a way to pay bills.
- If you are worried, contact Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858 (free, 24/7), or use the Gambling Help Online chat.
Age
WhereGamble is for adults. Nobody under 18 should use the site or follow its links to operators, and parents who share a device can install filtering software that blocks gambling content.
Corrections and contact
We would rather be told we are wrong than keep a mistake online. Errors, outdated terms and complaints about WhereGamble itself reach Corsalto Digital B.V., Zeelandia Commercial Center, Kaya W.F.G. (Jombi) Mensing 18, Willemstad, Curaçao, at [email protected]. We cannot take complaints about an operator’s decisions on your account; those belong with the operator first and, failing that, with its licensing authority.
