The short version
WhereGamble earns its money from casino operators. A reader clicks through, registers and, under most deals, deposits for the first time; at that point the operator or its affiliate programme pays us. It costs you nothing. The bonus on offer is identical for everyone arriving through that link, and it would usually be the same if you went to the casino directly, unless we say an offer is exclusive.
What our deals look like
Each agreement is different, but they fall into three types. Some pay a fixed sum for every new depositing player, often called CPA. Others give us a percentage of the net revenue an operator makes from the players we send, which means we earn more when those players lose more. Some combine the two. We do not publish the amounts operator by operator; they are commercial terms and they change.
We think you should know about the revenue-share model in particular. It is common across the industry and it is the reason we keep a responsible gambling message on every page rather than tucked away in one place.
What the money decides
Payment influences which casinos appear on WhereGamble at all and where they sit in a list. The first places in our tables go to operators we have commercial agreements with, and an operator that pays more may be placed higher than one that pays less. Labels such as “top pick” or a number one position reflect those agreements as well as our view of the casino. Lists are therefore advertising as much as editorial, and we would rather say so here than let a paid list pass for a neutral league table.
What the money does not decide
The facts printed inside a review: the wagering requirement, the maximum bet, the cap on winnings, the withdrawal limits, the payment methods, the licence the operator states, the warnings we attach. These are copied from the operator’s own terms or observed by us, and we apply the same method whether or not a casino pays us. If a partner’s terms are poor, the review says so. If an operator tightens a term, the review is revised review even when that is unwelcome to the partner.
Spotting a paid link
Buttons such as “Get bonus” and “Play now”, and most links routed via a /go/ address, are affiliate links. They carry the rel="sponsored" attribute in the page code. Links to regulators, support services and game providers are not paid. Two cookies lasting about a day are added on a /go/ click; Your privacy lists them.
How a casino ends up on the site
We review some operators because readers ask about them and others because we have a deal with them; partners make up most of what you see in our tables. A casino without an agreement can still get a review if it is relevant to Australian players, but it will rarely appear near the top of a list. When a partnership ends, the operator may disappear from our tables or move down them, while its review stays online as long as the information in it remains useful and accurate.
Exclusive offers
Occasionally a casino hands us a promo code or a package that is not advertised elsewhere; you will find these on our exclusive bonus page. An exclusive deal is negotiated as part of the commercial relationship, so it is one more reason a casino may sit higher in a list, and it is not proof that the casino is better than its rivals. Compare the wagering and withdrawal conditions, not just the headline amount.
What we are never paid for
- No payment buys the removal of a complaint, a warning or an unflattering fact from a review.
- We do not take a share of any reader’s winnings and we never hold player funds.
- Reader emails and personal details are never sold to operators.
- We do not run games or accept bets ourselves.
A note for Australian readers
The operators that pay us are licensed outside Australia, and offering online casino games to people here is prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. A commission arrangement between us and an operator does not change that position, nor does it mean the operator is approved by any Australian authority. Read Reading our reviews for what that means in practice.
